Artist Statement

“To live is to suffer, to survive is to find new meaning in the suffering”

– Friedrich Nietzsche

The subject of my work revolves around trauma and my process of healing. I use the impact of difficult ordeals in my life and influential artists as an inspiration to create art. It is important that I stay honest with myself and the work I make. I do not let my feelings hold my words or message back. This drive to speak out is a reflection to my voice being silenced during the sexual abuse. My process involves reaching out to the community and forming relationships with others who have experienced a traumatic event or time of darkness. When meeting with survivors of abuse, the connection and the duty to help re-empower another is important. I share how I have constructed ways to cope in order to survive for others to develop and find their own way. Bringing these experiences into my practice allows me to manifest my healing journey as art for others to see and or understand. I want to show others that they are not alone by reminding one another that things get better.
