Turn Me On, 2020
Turn Me On, 2020 examines the conversations around gender and our perception of what we don’t know. This is constructed of materials that consist of cardboard, strapping, thread, masking tape, and other found objects. I am exploring motifs around childhood through play, domestic spaces, objects, subconscious memories, and the mind. Through using the body, the presence of trauma transforms through abstraction, imagination, and minimalism.
I am thinking about what materials remind me of playful, childhood innocence Through my process of making. I am asking myself questions about how I can make my work more thought-provoking. How do I really come into my viewer’s brain, and fuck it? How do I leave spaces to entice others to enter, regardless of preconceived notions, while keeping them out through triggering fear from pleasure?
